Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) 

A stream for qualified candidates who have job offer from an Alberta employer and already live and work in Alberta

  • Must have a valid work permit
  • Job offer in an eligible occupation (NOC 0, A, B, C or D)
  • Must be currently working in the same eligible occupation
  • Language proficiency English or French – CLB 4 for NOC C & D occupations, CLB 5 for NOC 0, A, & B, and CLB 7 for NOC code 3413 (nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates)
  • Work Experience in an eligible and current occupation – 12 months full-time in Alberta withing the last 18 months, OR a minimum 24 months full-time in Canada and/or abroad in the last 30 months, OR for PGWP holders, 6 months full-time in Alberta in the last 18 months which relates to previous studies in Alberta and outside Canada

Alberta Express Entry Stream

A stream for qualified candidates with Express Entry profile and demonstrated strong ties (Job Offer in Alberta, graduate of a Canadian post-secondary institution, parents, child, brother of sister living in Alberta who is Canadian Citizen or PR) to Alberta may be invited for nomination application

  • Must have an active EE profile (FSW/FST/CEC)
  • Must have minimum CRS score of 300
  • Currently working in an occupation that meets the labour market demands of Alberta and supports Alberta’s economy

International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream

A stream for international graduates of approved Alberta post-secondary institutions who want to start a business or buy an existing business

  • Must have completed a 2-year post-secondary program in Alberta
  • Must have a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)
  • Language proficiency in English or French – CLB 7
  • Must establish a new business or buy an existing business in Alberta with 34% ownership
  • Proposed business most not be on the Alberta list of ineligible business
  • Must have a minimum of 6 months of full-time work experience (within or outside Canada) in business management or ownership (can be combined) or equivalencies (experience with a business incubator or business accelerator, or completion of entrepreneurship program)

Self-Employed Farmer Stream

A stream for experienced farmers who plan to buy or start a farm in Alberta

  • Must have a minimum net worth of $500,000
  • Must be able to invest a minimum of $500,000 in a primary production farming business in Alberta
  • Education, training and work or management experience in farming
  • Must provide a business plan
  • Prove that a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance the proposed farming business

Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream

A stream for foreign graduates from outside of Canada

  • Must have completed a 2-year post-secondary degree outside Canada within the last 10 years – ECA required
  • Minimum of 6 months full-time work experience that can be a combination of actively managing or owning the business or equivalent (equivalencies are work experience with business incubator or business accelerator)
  • Submit a business plan and a 10-minute slide presentation outlining the proposed business
  • Language proficiency in English or French – CLB 5
  • Minimum Investment – $100,000 in urban area or $50,000 in a regional area
  • Establish a business in Alberta with 34% ownership (urban area) or 51% ownership (regional area)
  • Must have a letter of recommendation from an AINP-approved designated agency
  • Must have sufficient settlement funds to set up business and support themselves while on work permit
