Parents & Grandparents Sponsorship

Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada.

Requirements of the program:
  • Sponsor must meet the Minimum Necessary Income (LICO +30%) for the period of 3 consecutive years prior to sponsorship application.
  • Spouse or common-law partner can act as a co-signer and their income can be used to meet the Minimum Necessary Income cut-off.
  • Sponsor must be residing in Canada at the time the application is submitted, and until a decision is made on the application.
  • Dependent children of the sponsored person (sibling of the sponsor) can be included.
  • Sign an undertaking to financially support the parents or grandparents, and reimburse the government for any social assistance paid out to sponsored persons, for a period of 20 years from the date becoming a permanent residence upon entry into Canada.
Application Process:
  1.  Submit the interest to sponsor form online when declared by IRCC.
  2. IRCC randomly selects and invite potential sponsors – Invitation to Apply (Invitation to apply is not a sponsorship approval but an invitation to submit a sponsorship application)
  3. Submit complete application within 60 days of Invitation to Apply along with necessary documents, forms and application fees.
